Welcome to the Elite Peer Network

Hello Again to all of you!  It has been a while since our last issue of the Elite Peer Network and now is the time to get in on the action. The movement in the e-doc, print, and direct mail industries is astounding.  The Elite Peer Network (EPN) is a notable group of e-doc professionals, what we like to call "The Best of the Best."  This newsletter serves as an update for all in the industry, both candidates building their career and companies building their business.  We offer the latest news on mergers, acquisitions, new products, and the industry trends we see happening on the people side of things. 

We are now in full production for first quarter and everyone wants to come out of the box swinging!  Our first few publications will feature tips and tools for hiring and retaining those heavy hitters this quarter.  The post Xplor/GOA Conference issue will feature highlights from the conference, particularly the HR Track and its notable speakers, including Johnna Torsone, Chief Human Resources Officer, Pitney Bowes.

Performance Relevance Study

Strategic Search Consultants, the premiere strategic E-document executive search firm released the summary of raw data for its ongoing Performance Relevance Ranking study of the industry.  This study ranks firms in the Print, Direct Mail/Marketing, List, Fulfillment, EBPP, Software and Label sectors. 

According to SSC, of the 608 firms surveyed the average industry firm has revenue per employee of $173,709, and generates $56,353,950 in revenue from 324 employees.  Those 608 firms generate over $34.263 billion in revenue and employ 197,241. 

"The SSC Performance Relevance Ranking is how we can internally and immediately tell the difference between a good, productive firm and the rest.  It gives us the starting point, if a firm is average within their space we can work with them to uncover why, and get them the talent to go from average to good, or from good to great." said Ken Leslie, EDP, CEO of Strategic Search Consultants.  "For example, in the printing space, of the 364 companies we have data points for, the average is $189k per employee and there is a big difference between the firms at the low end with $32k per employee and the high end of $266k per employee."  

Interesting to Mr. Leslie is the further difference between the Commercial Printers and the Digital Printers.  "According to the raw data, it suggests commercial printers generate an average of $195k per employee while digital printers generate $131k.  I want to refine the data further and get under the covers to validate this and see why."

In the Direct Mail/Marketing space, with data points from 183 companies, The SSC Performance Relevance Ranking shows the average per employee is $121k and a documented range from $32k to $390k per employee, while the Direct Marketing subset of 19 companies average $171k per employee.  

At the low end of the industry is the Fulfillment space with the lowest average of $101k per employee and the Software sector the highest with $309k per employee.  Other sectors are Label printers at $156k, E-billers at $176k and Database/Lists at $192k per employee.
